Netflix has added a new Black Lives Matter collection to its streaming service, which features movies, TV shows and documentaries about racial injustice and the experiences of Black people in America.

According to Variety, a pop-up screen featuring the collection was first displayed to subscribers in the US on Wednesday.

The collection can be accessed via the main menu by searching for Black Lives Matter and via this link, netflix.com/blacklivesmatter.

Netflix wrote on Twitter: "When we say 'Black Lives Matter,' we also mean 'Black storytelling matters.'

"With an understanding that our commitment to true, systemic change will take time – we're starting by highlighting powerful and complex narratives about the Black experience.

"When you log onto Netflix today, you will see a carefully curated list of titles that only begin to tell the complex and layered stories about racial injustice and Blackness in America."

A company spokesperson told Entertainment Weekly: "we hope that highlighting these titles can help increase empathy and understanding."

Titles in the collection include When They See Us, Dear White People, Who Killed Malcolm X, Becoming, Marshall, Mudbound and American Son.

Spike Lee's new Vietnam-era inspired movie, Da 5 Bloods, which centres on four vets, will also feature in the section when it premieres on Friday.
