The VW Polo Vivo retained its position as SA’s favourite passenger car despite July 2019 proving to be tough month for new vehicle sales.
The Vivo managed to secure a sales figure of 2621 units, according to Naamsa, to also place it as SA’s second best-selling vehicle for the month after the Toyota Hilux.
The Vivo’s bigger brother, the Polo, goes second with 2076 units sold. These two passenger cars are also the only two models to register triple-figure sales in July 2019.
i20 rises, Fortuner drops
Five vehicles managed to register a sales figure in the 800s, with the Hyundai i20 taking third place overall. It sold 863 units last month, followed by the Ford EcoSport on 839. The Toyota Corolla/Quest, collectively sold 819 units to move ahead of a regular top-four contender, the Toyota Fortuner (810 units).
In seventh place is the Kia Picanto which sold 800 units.
The Renault Kwid, one of South Africa’s budget-beaters, goes eighth on 768 units sold, followed by the Toyota Etios in ninth with 762 units sold.
Surprisingly, and not in its customary mid-table position, the Hyundai Grandi10 rounds out the top ten with 654 unit sold.
