Way before the image of Springbok World Cup-winning tighthead Frans Malherbe looking like heavyweight boxer Andy Ruiz Jr went viral, SuperSport's isiXhosa commentators had christened the No 3 "Bud Spencer".

"Ama-2000" and "Born-frees" probably won't know this, but Bud Spencer was one half of a comedic crime-busting film duo that included Terence Hill, which was hugely popular in SA from the 1970's to the 1990's.

Former Border Bulldogs and SA Schools front-rower-turned-commentator Lonwabo "Black" Mtimka made the uncanny comparison – the slight resemblance, the stubble and, of course, the unshakeable frame – and gave Malherbe the nickname out of affection.
