Francesco Bagnaia wins Dutch MotoGP, Binder demoted from third

Francesco Bagnaia won the Dutch MotoGP at Assen on Sunday to extend his lead in the championship.

Marco Bezzecchi took second with Brad Binder in third only for the South African to pick up a penalty for exceeding track limits that saw him demoted to fourth.

That promoted Aleix Espargaro to the podium after Binder suffered exactly the same fate in Saturday's sprint. Bagnaia takes a 35-point lead over Bezzecchi into the summer break, with racing resuming in early August at Silverstone.

Red Bull KTM rider Brad Binder has been demoted to fourth place after exceeding track limits on the final lap.

25 Jun 2023

Bagnaia wins, with Bezzecchi second and Binder third.

25 Jun 2023

Final lap: Bagnaia leads from Bezzecchi, but Binder is under pressure from Espargo and Martin behind.

25 Jun 2023

Lap 24/26: Bagnaia got back into his groove and is now 1.4sec ahead of Bezzecchi. He needed to do it, because Bezzecchi was closing quick.

Espargo is not letting go of Binder in third place, but now Martin has closed onto Espargo and could also insert his name as a late contender for the final podium position.

25 Jun 2023

Lap 22/26: Bezzecchi is closing quick on Bagnaia and the winner could be either one of them.

Binder is keeping Espargo at bay, but the battle for third is hotting up!

25 Jun 2023

Lap 20/26: Espargo is closing on Binder and could have a say in who will appear on the podium. Bagnaia is leading by 1.3 seconds, with Bezzecchi second.

Both Espargo and Bezzecchi have been quicker than Bagnaia. Could we be in for an epic finish?

25 Jun 2023

Bezzecchi passes Binder for second place. Could Binder's soft rear tyre be losing performance?

25 Jun 2023

Lap 15/26: Bagnaia has opened up the gap to Binder slightly, it now sitting at just over 0.5 seconds. Bezzecchi is 0.3sec behind Binder.

25 Jun 2023

Despite being on the Soft rear tyre, Binder is managing his rubber exceptionally well. Race leader Bagnaia is on the Medium rear, which could play into his hands in the race's closing stages.

25 Jun 2023

Lap 11/26: Bagnaia is still leading from Binder, but the South African is not giving up. And then Binder sets the quickest lap of the race!

25 Jun 2023

Lap 5/26: Bagnaia managed to pass Binder for first, but there is nothing between the race leaders. Bezzecchi is third.

Vinales also crashed out of the race having set the quickest lap of the race just moments before.

25 Jun 2023

Lap 2/26: Binder's teammate, Jack Miller, crashes out of the race. Meanwhile, Binder is holding onto the lead.

25 Jun 2023

Lap 1/26: Brad Binder leaps from fifth to first at the start of the race, leading after Turn 1. He is followed by Bagnaia.

25 Jun 2023

The warm-up lap is underway. We're going racing soon!

25 Jun 2023

This just in: Brad Binder to race around Assen on the Soft rear tyre. While this will give him a performance advantage in the early stages, it could be the opposite towards the end of the race. For Binder, then, he must manage his tyres over the next 26 laps around this 4.5km circuit.

25 Jun 2023

The speculation is that Brad Binder's Red Bull KTM could be poised and ideally positioned to challenge for the podium again. But more, is this an opportunity for the South African to register his first win in 2023?

25 Jun 2023

With the Moto3 and Moto2 races done, we're now just 20 minutes away from the main event. The riders are doing the sighting lap before coming into their starting blocks.

25 Jun 2023

Some tough news for Marc Marquez's fans. The Honda rider will not participate in today's race.

He wrote on social media: "Hello everybody. As you know, I have not arrived at Assen at 100% physically.

"In addition to the sprain and the finger fracture, there is a fractured rib that has been causing me a lot of pain.

"I woke up this morning with a lot of pain and, after a check-up, we have decided together with the medical team, not to race today to prevent it from getting worse and be able to recover the following weeks. Thank you all for your support!"
