Two people died and four others were injured after two cars collided in Kempton Park, Gauteng, on Saturday morning.

The accident – between a Nissan and a Hyundai – happened on the corner of Pretoria Road and the R25 at around 09:00.

"Of the four people injured, three were from the white Nissan and one was from the Hyundai. They were transported to different hospitals with serious and light injuries," Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department spokesperson Marie Mashishi said.

Mashishi added that the road was temporarily closed after the fatal crash.

Mashishi said the cause of the collision was unknown and that an investigation was under way.
