Charl Michael(20) and Kyle Visser (16) have been taking the national karting world by storm over the past few years and this year is set to be no exception.
The brothers, who hail from Van Riebeeckshof in Bellville, have had a stellar season, both winning championships many dream about.
The Vissers compete in different age groups and have over the years won coveted titles in both senior categories.
Last year, Charl Michael was crowned the 2023 CompCare Polo Cup champion at Zwartkops Raceway in Pretoria in October, marking his first win of this prestigious race.
“I am incredibly proud to have won my first main circuit championship in the CompCare Polo Cup,” Charl says.
“Not only did I have to beat the cream of the crop of (the race’s) young South African drivers to win, but I also follow in the footsteps of the many legends who can call themselves Polo Cup champions over the years, and who have gone on to far bigger things.”
Charl Michael won six races through last year’s season, including four in a row. He finished the year in first place in his Universal Racing Team Red Vokswagen.
Rookie cup
His brother Kyle, who is in Grade 11 at the High School DF Malan, blew away the competition and won the Volkswagen Rookie Cup at Aldo Scribante in Gqeberha at the end of November.
The Rookie Cup, a Volkwagen initiative, is a development platform for young aspirant racers. It’s run as an academy and the winner gets a 2024 Polo Cup drive.
“I am beyond proud to earn a fully paid Volkswagen Motorsport CompCare Polo Cup drive for 2024,” Kyle says. “Even more so, considering that my brother Charl has also netted the factory SupaCup drive by winning in the Polo Cup this year. We are eternally grateful to my parents who have supported us every step of the way.”
This isn’t the Vissers’ first double win. Five years ago Charl Michael took that year’s National high school Junior Max title and Kyle won the under-13 Mini Max crown.
Both brothers thanked their parents, Charl snr and Corne, after their races.
