The incident occurred on Friday 26 January on the corners of Giel Basson Drive and Gert van Rooyen, and Baracouta Avenue.
City of Cape Town law enforcement spokesperson Wayne Dyason says the law enforcement vehicle had been chasing another vehicle when the accident occurred.
“Law enforcement officers were in pursuit of a reckless and negligent driver when the incident happened on Friday evening. The reckless driver sped through a red light and officers followed and the incident occurred,” says Dyason.
The reckless driver drove off. No injuries were reported
Paul Kruger, a member of the PWP Neighbourhood Watch (Plattekloof, Welgelegen, Panorama and Kleinbosch), was one of the first responders on the scene.
“It is commendable how quickly the PWP Neighbourhood Watch and the accident response team responded to the four-vehicle accident on Friday.
“The coordinated efforts in providing medical assistance, traffic control, and clean-up show the effectiveness of community involvement. Special thanks to David Blake (Precint Emergency Medical Response), all PWP Neighbourhood Watch members and AA Class Towing Services for their contributions to managing the situation and getting traffic flowing again,” Kruger says.
The accident was also attended to by the Metro Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and ER24.
