The inaugural Red Feather Charity Run, organised by Community Chest and Run for Christ Athletic Club, is a race with a purpose.
The Community Chest, one of the oldest non-profit organisations in Nelson Mandela Bay, is raising funds to support one of its beneficiaries, Miracle Kids, based at the Chatty Clinic in Gqeberha. The organisation is dedicated to rehabilitating and integrating under-privileged disabled children into mainstream schools. With a focus on providing daycare and therapeutic stimulation programmes, Miracle Kids strives to promote self-reliance among children with intellectual and multiple disabilities.
“By entering this race, participants will greatly contribute to supporting physically-challenged children who need special education and care,” said Selwyn Willis, Community Chest chief executive officer.
Scheduled to take place at Sunridge Village Centre on May 4, the run offers both a 5km Fun Run and a 10km road race.
“We welcome all runners, families, parents with prams, and even furry friends to join this noble cause,” said Willis.
Education and nutrition of young children is one of Community Chest’s key pillars, and schools are encouraged to enter their learners. Among the exciting prizes is a special offer from PE Express, granting the school with the highest number of entries a feature in the publication.
Sunridge Village Centre extends a warm invitation to everyone to be a part of this event, while Twizza will be on hand to provide refreshing ice-cold cola to all runners at the finish line. Registration is available at webtickets.co.za.
