Anglo American Platinum, BMW and Sasol are three corporate entities which greatly influence South Africa's technology trajectory. Working together, they have pledged to advance the cause of hydrogen-powered vehicles for the local market, a concept Anglo American Platinum has proven with its enormous mining trucks. 

BMW's business might be luxury vehicles, but advanced engineering has always guided the German brand's corporate culture. And in the era of electrified vehicles, BMW has been more resistant than some of its German rivals, notably Audi and VW.

Whereas other brands produce EVs with dedicated vehicle architectures, BMW has taken the blended platform approach, building EVs and ICE-powered vehicles on the same platform. That's a compromise, but one BMW believes more sensible than overscaling to underwhelming demand, something VW has struggled with lately, having to idle its EV production facilities as buyers defer EV purchases.
