While Maserati's South African arm is readying for the arrival of its newest sports car, the MC20, the car made its debut at the 2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Showing its prowess, the car made a run up the infamous hill that plays host to the Supercar Run. The MC20 heralds a new era for the Italian automaker and is powered by a Formula 1-derived petrol engine.
The MC20 is Maserati's first mid-engine two-seater super sports car. Its engine, called Nettuno, is a 3.0-litre V6 unit with 463kW and 730Nm on offer. Weighing just 1 500kg, the rear-wheel drive sports car can clear 0-100km/h in 2.9 seconds, 0-200km/h in 8.8sec, and run a 325km/h top speed.

The engine is perhaps the biggest talking point about the car. It's positioned at a 90-degree angle, and each of the six cylinders features a pre-chamber that houses a second spark plug with a dual-direct injection system. According to Maserati, this setup improves the engine's response time.
The first South African customers will take delivery of their MC20s in the fourth quarter of 2021.
