While sales of fully electric vehicles (EVs) in South Africa are certainly on the up, the total number is still a mere fraction of the overall market.

In the first quarter of 2023, for instance, Naamsa said 232 electric cars were registered locally.

By our maths, that translates to just 0.27% of the Q1 industry tally of 84 774 units.
