South Africans have had to wait a long time for Isuzu's most economical turbodiesel engine in an SUV.

The 1.9-litre RZ4E-TC turbodiesel has been available as an MU-X powertrain option globally since 2016, but it was never available in South Africa. Until now.

Isuzu realises it can't compete with Fortuner and Everest, offering only one powertrain. Not all Fortuner sales are 2.8-litre engines, just as very few Everest sales will be the 3-litre V6. South Africans are increasingly seeking better powertrain value, at a lower price, without sacrificing vehicle platform.
