Goliath and radio presenter, Angie Khumalo, presented the launch of the new Ranger Thunder on Ford South Africa's social media platforms. Still, it was Goliath who took the cake with his energetic nature.

While Khumalo found herself somewhere in the city, Goliath was in the KwaZulu-Natal countryside. When he made his first appearance in the clip, he started with a bang, saying: "Even me, Goliath, is here for the good times! And that means the fun is with me. The fun… same WhatsApp group as me."

For the launch video, Goliath participated in several activities, including abseiling and canoeing.

Bringing the Thunder

The new Ranger Thunder was launched locally on Thursday (13 August) and slots in between the Ranger WildTrak and Ranger Raptor. It is based on the WildTrak but features several enhancements to make it stand out from the crowd.

Some of the more notable features are the red 'nostrils' on the honeycomb grille, red inserts on the sports hoop, blackened rims, 'Thunder' nomenclature on several body parts, including the front seats, and red stitching on interior panels.

Because the Thunder is based on the WildTrak models, it makes use of the same engines as found in the WildTrak models. These include the 3.2-litre five-cylinder motor and the bi-turbo 2.0-litre engine - both diesel engines. The 3.2-litre produces 147kW/470Nm, whereas the 2.0-litre is good for 157kW/500Nm. While the 3.2 Thunder is available in rear-wheel-drive only, the bi-turbo is available in 4x2 or 4x4.

The 3.2-litre engine is available with a six-speed automatic transmission, and the 2.0-litre with Ford's new 10-speed auto 'box. The bakkie also has a ground clearance of 230mm, 800mm wading depth, and a towing capacity of up to 3500kg.
