Lexus' commitment to electrification is coming full circle with the announcement that its UX model will only be sold as a hybrid in SA.
The 250h range comes equipped with a 2.0-litre petrol engine good for 107kW and 188Nm, and working together with an electric motor, total system output is 135kW.
It runs from 0-100km/h in 8.5 seconds with a limited top speed of just under 180km/h. Fuel economy stands at 4.5-litres/100km. Pricing starts from R719 600 for the base EX model and R795 800 for the top-specced SE.
An electric future
The EX comes standard with park distance control with a reverse camera, push start system, Drive Mode Select, navigation system, hands-free boot operation, cruise control, heated side mirrors, and day and night mirrors.

Standard inventory for the SE trim includes adaptive cruise control, Pre-Crash System, Blind Spot Monitor, Lane Keep Assist and LED Adaptive High-beam System. A total of eight airbags throughout the range further reinforce the safety aspect.
Lexus plans to sell an electrified version of every model in its line-up by 2025. Since 2005, with the launch of the RX 400h, Lexus has been at the forefront of cleaner driving, resulting in the sale of two million EVs globally at the end of the first quarter of 2021.
All models come standard with a seven-year or 105 000km mechanical warranty, full maintenance plan and Lexus Connect service.
