South Africans are expected to be treated to a new 4x4 in 2022 - if all goes well. The Ineos Grenadier will make its much-expected debut in the country and will be powered by a choice of two six-cylinder BMW engines. While plenty of details around the new off-roader is already known, the interior is one of the aspects that's been largely kept under wraps.
According to Ineos, the Grenadier's interior represents a hard-working 4x4, and lives up to the space, practicality, and versatility expected from a vehicle in this class.
Toby Ecuyer, Head of Design at Ineos, says: "When we started thinking about the Grenadier's interior, we looked carefully at modern aircraft, boats and even tractors for inspiration, where switches are sited for optimal function, regular controls are close to hand, auxiliary ones are further away. You can see the same approach in the Grenadier: the layout is functional and logical, designed with ease of use in mind. It has everything you need and nothing you don't."
Interior explained
The Grenadier's interior is said to feature advanced technologies that are both functional and usable. A 12.3-inch touchscreen houses the infotainment system that is both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible. Access to the system and its functions is via a rotary dial. A nifty feature is the off-road pathfinder navigation system. This system, says Ineos, "allows drivers to programme, follow and record their route via waypoints, when roads and tracks are left behind."

To compliment the 4x4's rugged nature, the interior can be hosed down. This has been achieved by fitting the vehicle with hard-wearing surface materials and drain plugs in the rubber flooring. The Recaro seats are water-resistant and feature anti-stain technology. Those who wish to keep their Grenadier's interior mud-free, can opt for the carpet and leather upholstery options.
Dirk Heilmann, Ineos Automotive's CEO, said: "Inside and out, the Grenadier has been designed to do a job - to get people and their kit where they want to go in comfort, in control and with no fuss. It just works."
