Isuzu's all-new D-MAX is set to take the new 1-ton bakkie market by storm in 2022, but before that new model arrives to ruffle the Toyota Hilux, Nissan Navara, and Ford Ranger's feathers, the current-generation D-Max is being given one final hurrah.
Although it was initially introduced in 2016 as a unique value-oriented model to the D-MAX range, the X-Rider proved popular with bakkie buyers in South Africa and has become a permanent fixture of the Isuzu model line-up both in SA and neighbouring markets. To celebrate the current generation's success and give South African D-MAX fanatics one last chance to own a unique version of the vehicle, the company is offering 210 individually-numbered units in this run-out phase of the bakkie.

They say they've built it to last a lifetime
Built at Isuzu's high-tech Struandale plant in Gqeberha, the X-Rider Limited Edition benefits from eight years of continuous improvements to the 6th generation D-MAX. "We continually study feedback and data from the field throughout the lifecycle of our vehicles, and we continue to make improvements not only to the product but to the manufacturing processes to maximise build quality. The X-Rider Limited Edition is by far the most robust and well-built example of the D-MAX to date. This is a vehicle which will last a lifetime," says Dominic Rimmer, senior vice president of technical operations at Isuzu Motors South Africa.
"We believe this is the best iteration of the D-MAX bakkie to date in terms of value, build quality, and appeal. The X-Rider Limited Edition is a vehicle that true Isuzu fans will be proud to own and keep as part of their garage," adds Craig Uren, senior vice president of Isuzu sales and marketing at Isuzu Motors South Africa.

There are three models available in the final run of the X-Rider Limited Edition line-up.
- 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel High Output (100kW) X-Rider LTD 4x2 five-speed manual
- 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel High Output (100kW) X-Rider LTD 4x2 five-speed auto
- 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel (130kW) X-Rider LTD 4x2 six-speed auto.
The 2.5-litre models offer 100kW of pulling power at 3400rpm and 320Nm of torque between 1800rpm and 2800rpm. The 3.0-litre model boasts 130kW at 3600rpm and 380Nm between 1800rpm and 2800rpm. According to Isuzu, combined cycle fuel consumption for the 2.5-litre version is 7.7 litres per 100km. Surprisingly, the 3.0-litre model's claimed combined cycle fuel consumption is better at 7.5 litres per 100km.
These limited edition X-Rider models come with a five-year or unlimited km anti-corrosion warranty and a five-year or 90 000km Service Plan. Service intervals are every 15 000km or 12 months.
