South Africa's favourite SUV, the Toyota Fortuner, has undergone a specification update. Though on the face of it, there is no need to adjust or add to the product offering, Toyota South Africa says that they are consistently evaluating the product offering; considering evolving customer needs and incorporating market feedback.
This approach has been monumental in the Fortuner's success to the effect that the SUV will surpass 1 000 units sold in any given month. In November 2021, 701 Fortuners found new owners, but the 'low' sales number can be attributed to the global microchip shortage.
Here are the changes brought about on the Toyota Fortuner.
Convenience specification
2.8 models receive an upgrade to the dual-zone climate control while the range-topping VX grade inherits a Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) with a selectable view. The audio system is also upgraded to the 11-speaker JBL Premium Audio system. The onboard satellite navigation has been omitted due to the preferred usage of smartphone apps via the Apple CarPlay/Android Auto functionality.
Safety and security
All Fortuner models also boast an enhanced Smart Entry system with additional security measures.
In addition, VX variants receive additional functionality to the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) system in the form of Blind- Spot Monitoring (BSM) and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA).
Colour choices
The colour line-up on the 2.4 and 2.8 models remain unchanged (seven options).
On VX models, Pearl White is replaced by the new Platinum White Pearl - offering eight exterior hues to choose from.
Engine and transmission
The 2.4 and 2.8 GD-6 engines continue their duties. The 2.4 GD-6 produces 110kW and 400Nm and are available in both six-speed manual and six-speed auto transmission configurations. All 2.8 variants are paired exclusively with the automatic transmission and produce 150kW and 500Nm.
The fuel index ranges from 6.8- to 7.9-litres/100km, depending on the variant and transmission type selected.
