Cocooned in Land Rover luxury, we set off on the 158km back roads drive for the Agulhas National Park's Agulhas Rest Camp. It's a destination I've long thought of visiting, but always eschewed for more budget-friendly accommodations outside of the park's three exclusive rest camp zones, writes News24 Motoring contributor Nick Yell.

The thing with riding old-school, dual-purpose motorcycles is that they often need a fair amount of fiddling before setting off on a long journey. I was nearing the end of my oil checking, chain tightening, windscreen adjusting, spoke and tyre pressure checking routine on my Suzuki DR650 when I noticed a broken-off nail in the back knobbly. 

The tyre didn't seem particularly flat, but the gauge disagreed. And with it being too late to get to a tyre repair shop before Bruce and I left the following day, he offered up his 2022 Land Rover Defender 110 X-Dynamic D300 AWD Automatic as an alternative.
