An insider account of how the women of Newsnight secured the infamous interview with Prince Andrew about his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein.
In 2019, when Prince Andrew was interviewed on BBC's Newsnight, the biggest shock was not that he admitted guilt - it was that the interview happened in the first place. That the palace, which is usually so incredibly careful about the narrative they put out in the world, would give the okay to an interview of this magnitude seems ludicrous. But somehow, the BBC made this happen, and the 'why' is what Scoop is about.
It is based on the book Scoops: Behind the Scenes of the BBC's Most Shocking Interviews by former Newsnight producer and editor Sam McAlister. The film follows Sam (Billie Piper), then a junior producer and a booker on the show, as she dodges classist co-workers and retrenchments at the BBC to get the ungettable interviews.
