The first weekend of March 2021 brought about plenty of action in the local motorsport scene as both Drift Outlaws and Spin Outlaws held an important event at a track just outside Cape Town.

For Drift Outlaws, the atmosphere was thick with excitement as Tommie Beirowski set about defending his #1 spot.

Beirowski was crowned Drift King at the series' event in January after beating then Drift King, Shane Green, to the punch. It was the first time that Beirowski was crowned Drift King, having chased the title since the series' inception. But his reign was short-lived as former Drift King, Juan Stemmet, reclaimed the title he lost to Green in late 2020.

Self-inflicted damage

Beirowski suffered damage to his car's chassis during the practice session, which compromised his driving throughout the day. Like the driver who took the title from him, Green also suffered self-inflicted damage to his car, yet both men put on a brave showing to finish as best they could.

In the end, Stemmet regained the top spot, with Beirowski now in second. Green occupies the fifth spot.

Race Master Raziek Rajah says: "Success in racing is such a fine balance, especially when there are nine guys below waiting for any reason and shot to remove you form that top position you earned. Drift Outlaws' competition has been so rampant, as the Drift King has changed three times in four meetings. The positions on the Drift Outlaws list has swopped more than 12 times from positions two to ten."

Drift Outlaws' next meeting will occur on 27 March 2021, where 25 drifters will all be vying to be crowned the Western Cape's regional Drift King.

Drift Outlaws and its rise

Drift Outlaws has taken the local motorsport scene by storm. From the onset, it was clear that the series can become something more and more significant than anyone could have imagined, and it did. Under Rajah's guidance, the series grew with each passing season. So much so that a reality TV show has been made about it.

Several big-name sponsors have come on board to help develop and nurture talent, with Rajah always looking for avenues to increase the series' footprint.

In 2019, Stemmet represented South Africa and Drift Outlaws at the FIA Intercontinental Drifting Cup in Japan. He competed against renowned drifters like Charles Ng, Chen Wen Qian, Georgy "Gotcha" Chivchyan, and Tengku Djan Ley. Stemmet's participation put South Africa on the map as a reckoned country in the global drift scene and has garnered widespread acclaim from local and international drifters.
