The Aragon grand pix race did not disappoint as Suzuki rider Alex Rins became the eighth different winner this season and third-placed Joan Mir overtook Fabio Quatararo in the championship.
Honda rider Alex Marquez, the younger brother and teammate of Marc, secured a second consecutive second place finish with hard-fought battle against compatriot Rins who started 10th on the grid.
The rookie finished second at the French GP, it was the first time he had experienced a MotoGP bike in wet conditions.
Frenchman Quatararo relinquished his lead at the top of the riders' standings after his Yamaha struggled for grip and then suffered front tyre pressures issues as he finished in a lowly 18th position.
Championship standings
Mir's brilliant performance on the Suzuki was the fifth podium result this season and elevated the 23-year-old Spanish rider to 121 points in the championship, six points ahead of Quatararo.
"I'm trying to be as consistent as I can," Mir told AFP. "I'm happy to be on the podium."
Amazingly, just 15 points separate Mir, Quatararo, Maverick Vinales and Andrea Dovizioso.
South Africa's Brad Binder finished in 11th place in Aragon, the same spot he occupies in the championship.
Rossi to miss second race at Aragon
Seven-time MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi's Yamaha team confirmed the Italian will miss the Teruel GP race at the Aragon circuit this weekend.
The 41-year-old tested positive for Covid-19 and is currently in quarantine and did not race on Sunday.
Due to Italian law, Valentino Rossi will be unable to attend the Gran Premio de Teruel event," said a team statement.
