When Drift Outlaws got off the ground, its founder Raziek Rajah always envisioned it becoming one of the biggest and most talked-about motorsport codes in South Africa. The promotion grew in leaps and bounds over the years, with each passing season seeing it become bigger and better. GHC Racing Drift Outlaws, to use its full name, falls under the Razor Customs Car Show umbrella, but Rajah, the series' promoter, has begun with a massive expansion program that will see the Group enter the world of spinning.
Called Spin Outlaws, the promotion will look to give spinners and fans of this sport a space where they can live out their passion in a legal way.
Rajah says: "After the previous Bragging Rights event held at Killarney Raceway in Cape Town in March 2020, many spinners were unhappy and felt that they wanted an inclusion into the Bragging Rights franchise. And following a conversation with Nazeer Loonat from RaceSA, the idea for 'Spin Outlaws' came to mind and the rest, as they say, is history."
Rajah is an advocate for lawfully conducting business. Whether it's running his the family's construction company or his motorsport involvement, everything must be done above board. And with spinners often without a venue to legally live out their passion, he realised that there is a place for expansion and inclusion.
Inclusion for all
GHC Racing Spin Outlaws will, from the off, make a national impact on local motorsport fans. Rajah and his team fine-tuned the idea to have it run in six of South Africa's nine provinces and one city: Johannesburg. A final event is set for 2 October 2021 in Cape Town; Covid-19 and lockdown levels permitting. At the October event, two drivers - the Spin King and a wild card - will each receive an R50 000 VP Racing Fuels SA sponsorship, giving the participants something worth bringing their A-game for.
Here's how it'll work: Each province will run their own events to sift through the competitors. In the end, each province will field three drivers/spinners - bringing the total to 18 spinners. Johannesburg and Razor Customs Car Show will field three competitors each, as well. In total, 24 spinners will take part in the Cape Town Finals.

Rajah says: "South Africa will, for the first time, have a Spin King that is not regional, but national. It is impossible to host all the best spinners in South Africa in a single event; hence with this format, the best of the best will challenge for the coveted title. As in Drift Outlaws, so too in Spin Outlaws, we are open to all. No segregation based on colour or creed.
"Two rules apply, though: No compromise on the safety protocol and one must have a ball while racing. If you abide by these two rules, you are part of the team."

Rajah concludes: "GHC Racing Spin Outlaws has a rule pack, which takes away the subjectivity of judging spinning. No favours for anyone, no matter how famous you are. If you want to win, come and drive for it. No handouts or friendly benefits. But with this national series on the go, I hope it will bring excitement and a new sense of purpose in the world of spinning."
