The Zulu royal family is preparing to have a new queen welcomed to the royal palace of KwaKhangelamankengane in Nongoma, northern KwaZulu-Natal.

After 16 cows were handed to her family at the weekend, the journey to Nomzamo Myeni of Jozini becoming King Misuzulu kaZwelithini’s third wife officially started in a lavish ceremony where she and her family were showered with gifts.

The former bank teller, according to news reports, fell for the king and left her job.

“The news emerged this week during a closed meeting of senior royal members held in the royal palace of KwaKhangelamankengane in Nongoma, northern KwaZulu-Natal,” according to a Sunday newspaper report.

“The king has found the beautiful rose in the royal garden of Myeni in Jozini,” AmaZulu traditional prime minister Thulasizwe Buthelezi reportedly told members of the royal house.

“He has instructed me to request all the royal family members to pay lobola [dowry] to the Myenis on the 5th of May.”

Indlunkulu is Queen Nontokozo kaMayisela of Pietermaritzburg, KZN, the second wife is Queen Nozizwe Mulela kaMakhubu of Eswatini.

Earlier this year, KZN premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube announced the province’s plan to build the new king a palace fit for him as KwaKhangelamankengana is where his late mother, Queen Mantfombi Shiyiwe Dlamini-Zulu, was laid to rest.

“We are encouraged at the continuation of the cordial and professional relations that exist between our government and his majesty, the king,” said Dube-Ncube.

“As we did with the late king, we continue to provide administrative and logistical support for the reigning monarch. In consultation with his majesty, we are finalising plans to build a new palace for the king in Nongoma.”

King Misuzulu’s third wife, Nomzamo, may very well have her royal household established there.
