Engine swaps is a big part of tuning both locally and abroad. Whether its squeezing an RB26DETT into a Opel Kadett or a VW Beetle fitted with a Rotary engine, there have been some crazy builds over the years.

Just about any petrolhead the world over knows about the Toyota Supra, the fourth-generation in particular, and its famed 2JZGTE engine. It's reputation for producing stupendous amounts of power with minor tuning and on stock internals, makes it a favoured weapon of choice for tuners.

In with the new

Japanese drifter Daigo Saito flipped the script completely, swapping a 596kW 2JZ into the chassis of the current fifth-generation. The stock engine used in the new Supra is the exact same found in the new BMW Z4 - a twin-scroll turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six engine good for 250kW and 500Nm.

Japan and insane engine swaps seem to follow a unique trend. For those familiar with Japanese tuner Smokey Nagata, he shoe-horned a twin-turbo V12 Lexus engine into a MKIV Supra chassis.

The extent of this conversion just shows how high the 2JZ engine is still held in high regard even if technology is getting more advanced and times are changing.
