Just when you think you’ve seen it all, South Africa manages to dish up something special. In this case, something extraordinary.

Quentin Boylan, a Pretoria man with a love for all things motoring, tuned a Toyota Hilux to a point that you could almost not believe that its still a Hilux. How? Well, by simply replacing the engine with a Mercedes-AMG motor! And aptly called it 'AMG Hilux'.

In the video below, Boylon and his passenger take on the open road at night, just to get an experience of what the bakkie is like to drive. Though it may be badged as a Toyota, the Hilux’s heart is all German.

Wheels24 does not condone any speeding on public roads, neither do we condone any illegal activities, and we strongly advise against practising these activities.

Codenamed M156, the 6.2-litre V8 engine was the first to be fully developed by Mercedes-Benz performance arm, AMG. This engine was used in a variety of vehicles - from the C63 to the SLS - but in the former’s case, power was rated at 336kW and 630Nm. It is this specification engine that’s now doing duty in the Hilux.

If this was your bakkie, what would you have called it? Email us.
