The supercar game is in a different league in the 21st century compared to 30 years ago, this was roughly when production began on Gordon Murray's supercar, the McLaren F1.
In 1998 the F1 was the world's fastest production car with a top speed of 386.4km/h, it was only beaten in 2005 by Swedish brand Koenigsegg's CCR.
Porsche's 959 sported a potent twin-turbocharged 2.8-litre with a flat-six cylinder engine layout and had all-wheel drive. It produced 331kW and 500Nm that was channeled via a six-speed manual gearbox.
It was considered as one of the most technologically advanced road-going sports cars ever when it was unveiled in 1986.
We can't ignore Ferrari's F40 when discussing the greatest supercars of all time, the mid-engined rear-wheel drive was produced between 1987 and 1992.
The company said at the time: "The F40 is for the most enthusiastic of our owners who want nothing but sheer performance. It isn't a laboratory for the future, as the 959 is."
The engine was nothing short of spectacular, a 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 producing over 350kW mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
This is the calibre of performance cars that are on the list, but we'd love to know which five supercars you think are the best the world has ever seen. Email us here.
