• Mercedes-AMG E63 S takes on the AMG-GT 63 S.

• The duo use V8 forced induction engines.

• Both have over 450kW and power is sent to all four wheels.

It's an AMG showdown as two of Mercedes' finest performance models meet in this CarWow drag race between the AMG-GT 63 S four-door and the E63 S.

Both models are massively powerful, have blistered wheel arches, and chows fuel like it's going out of fashion. So, what have we got here? Well, these cars use the same platform, both have four-litre bi-turbo engines and use all-wheel-drive to make sure all the power gets transferred to the road.

The GT 63 S has 14kW and 50Nm more than the cheaper E63 S. The similarities are under the skin but above that the E63 particularly in wagon form has a cool look about it.

It's the more practical car of the two, while the GT's sloping roofline and space for four means it focuses on looks and performance more than the practical side of things.

E63 S

The Mercedes-AMG E63 S model, produced 450kW and 850Nm from a 4.0-litre biturbo motor. The top speed is 300km/h and it'll reach 100km/h from standstill in 3.4 seconds.

The Merc has a gearbox with nine forward speed and for the recent update, the E63 uses 20-inch five-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels.

And while the big Merc can hit over 300km/h, it still needs to be comfortable. The carmaker has updated the adaptive damping system with revisions to the special spring and damper setup to offer a more comfortable ride than its predecessor.

For the updated model, seen in the video, the E63 benefits from a newer front apron of which the Panamericana grille sits in, with a fresher headlight design also noted. The rear fascia has also been completely redesigned says the carmaker.

GT 63 S

The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S counters with 470kW and 900Nm from its 4.0-litre biturbo V8 engine and comes out tops against the E. The Affalterbach missile sends its power to all four wheels via the 4Matic system.

Styling may be subjective, but there's no denying how gorgeous the GT four-door looks. These cars are heavy. The AMG-GT tips the scales at 2120kg.

The question is, who will win this family affair drag race?

Carwow says: "We've brought together a Mercedes-AMG E63 S to show down against an AMG GT 4-Door S!

"Under the skin, both cars are amazing similar. You'll find a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 under both their bonnets, and while the E63 can put down 450kW and 850Nm, the GT 4-Door slightly surpasses it, with 470kW and 900Nm. However, when you consider the GT is almost 200kg heavier than the E63, will it prove to be its downfall?"
