SA Honda fans would still pay over R300 000 for an old S2000 sportscar

accreditation

• Voters chose how much an S2000 is worth

• More than 1200 votes were tallied

• 85.7% would pay under R200k

Earlier in May 2020, Wheels24 published a series of articles on the Honda S2000.

The first article looked at the car and its omission from the market, whereas the second was a vote on how much you're willing to pay for a second-hand unit.

Having posted the vote on our Twitter page, followers took the time to select the price option they felt were the most reasonable. Motivating the three voting options were Honda S2000 listing we found on AutoTrader, which begged the question: How much are you willing to spend on a used S2000.

The three options we gave you were: R150 000 - R200 000; R200k - R280k; and Upwards of R280k.

A total of 1239 votes came in, spread across the three possible answers.

The votes are in

Of the more than 1200 votes, a whopping 85.7% said that they'd pay between R150k and R200k for a used Honda S2000. This is understandable, given that production on the car ended eleven years ago.

9% said that anything between R200k - R280k is reasonable.

VOTE: What is a fair price for a second-hand Honda S2000?

The most interesting part is that 5.3% of voters said that they're willing to pay upwards of R280k for this car. We assume that these voters know what the S2000 is about and will fork out the necessary cash to attain one. In our experience, and from what we know, Honda S2000 owners are extremely caring for their cars. Whether one is modified or kept stock-standard, the chances are that it will be in a very good condition.

Our take

The Honda S2000 is one of the legends of the automotive world and will forever be remembered as a car with fantastic driving dynamics. That's also why people don't want to sell them. But if one were to come our way and the ducks were nicely lined up, anything between R200k and R280k will probably be a fair price – provided, of course, that the car is in good condition.

If a bargain can be struck and an asking price of under R200k is on the table, go for it!

The S2000 is not a practical, family car, and would serve as a weekend toy or a pet project that gets a lot of TLC on a Saturday morning. But with regards to the enjoyment from behind the steering wheel, that you can rarely put a price on.
