'Stink bug' prevents Japanese cars being delivered to New Zealand

New Zealand - An insect known as the 'Stink Bug', is preventing Japanese cars from being delivered to New Zealand.

Money.cnn.com reports that three cargo ships carrying imported cars were blocked at the NZ ports this month after finding swarms of stink bugs aboard.

A threat to the environment 

The stink bugs are known to be a threat to New Zealand's ecosystem because of their  rapid reproduction and resistance to most pesticides.

CEO of New Zealand's imported motor vehicle association, David Vinsen said: "In my 15 years in this role, and probably 30 years involved in this industry, I have not seen anything which is as serious as this." 

It is also reported that as many as 8000 more vehicles are awaiting shipment in Japan as a result.
