Porsche, McLaren, Lambo... Supercar makers post record sales

2018 was a great year for supercar automakers Porsche, Lamborghini and McLaren. They all delivered many more amazing vehicles last year than ever before. 

Porsche's Macan spearheaded the German automakers quarter of a million deliveries in 2018, while Italian automaker Lamborghini saw a 50% increase in deliveries last year.

McLaren Automotive sold just over 4800 cars in 2018, an exceptional increase of just under 44%. 

We take a closer look at the three supercar makers and their performances in 2018:

Porsche 

Porsche delivered 256 255 vehicles worldwide in 2018, more than ever before. This represents a growth of 4% compared to the existing record figures of the preceding year.

Of the model series, the Panamera recorded the strongest percentage growth with a 38% increase to 38 443 deliveries. The 911 also recorded a double-digit rise: despite the release of a new generation of 911, the number of sports cars delivered increased by 10% to 35 573 vehicles.

The Macan was still the most successful model by volume with 86 031 vehicles, just ahead of the Cayenne with 71 458 deliveries. 


Lamborghini

Lamborghini celebrated an historic sales record for 2018, with 5750 cars delivered to customers around the world, which is an increase of 51% over the previous year.

Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Automobili Lamborghini comments: “In 2018, Lamborghini entered new dimensions. We delivered not only another sales increase, but reached substantially new levels in surpassing by far the magic mark of 5000 Lamborghinis sold.

McLaren 

Global sales for McLaren Automotive, the British creator of luxury sports cars and supercars, rose to 4806 cars in 2018 with sales up 43.9% over the previous year. This is another record for the company which has increased sales every year since its formation in 2010. 

North America, which represents McLaren’s biggest single market and over a third of global sales, surpassed the 5000 cars sold mark since sales started in 2011 and achieved another year of record growth.

European sales rose 44.2% but the biggest leap was seen in China at 122.5% growth following the introduction of the 570S Spider and 720S. China now accounts for almost 7% of total global sales.
