WATCH: How to check your car battery's condition

accreditation

A car's battery is an integral component and one that will need replacing during your car's life.

Batteries stabilizes, filters and and give the necessary needed power for ignition, electrical lighting and other accessories including music.

The life expectancy of a car battery can range between 3 to 5 years depending on a variety of factors like if the car is left standing for long periods of time and forgetting to switch the parking lights off.

There are several factors that can also influence your battery's life span such as weather conditions, the type of vehicle you drive and how big your sound system is.

Batteries will get weaker over time and symptoms like hard-starting or the engine light flashing on the dashboard are pre-warning signs that your battery is reaching the end of its life.

Make sure to check

The best way to check whether your battery has adequate spark is to make use of a multimeter instrument that measures both voltage and current levels. A reading of 12.6V means it is still in good shape.

There is nothing worse than being stuck with a flat battery so it is worth having it checked out.
