According to Toyota Gazoo Racing, its turbocharged 3-cylinder, 1.6-litre engines smacks out 200kW and 360Nm which is sent to all four wheels via a GR-FOUR permanent 4WD system. Purists will love the six-speed manual transmission to extract the engine's maximum revving capability.
A hatch of fun
The body is made from lightweight materials that include a new carbon fibre polymer for the roof while sections like the bonnet, roof and tailgate comprise of Aluminium. It's development stems from the Japanese brand's title-winning experience in the World Rally Championship.
This combination together with the forced induced power, gives it a superb power-to-weight ratio and a low kerb weight of 1 280kg. This translates to a 0-100km/h acceleration in less than 5.5-seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 230km/h.
The driver can choose between three modes - Normal, Sport and Track - where torque distribution is shifted in 60:40, 30:70 and 50:50 ratios respectively.Image: Toyota
