Lexus' new small SUV, the UX , will launch imminently in South Africa. The luxury Japanese automaker will go head to head with a plethora of luxo-SUVs including the Volvo XC40, Mercedes-Benz GLA, BMW X1 and Audi's forthcoming Q3.
The UX is just under 4.5-metres long and has a wheelbase of 2.6-metres. The entry-level model is powered by a 2.0-litre engine with 126kW and 205Nm and uses a CVT gearbox.
The 200 EX reaches 100km/h from standstill in 9.2 seconds and has a top speed of 190km/h.
The mid-range model is the 250H SE which combines a 2.0-litre and an electric engine to produce 107kW and 180Nm. Lexus say it'll do the 0-100km/h sprint time in 8.5 seconds and runs out of puff at 177km/h.
Lexus claim the hybrid mode will sip just 4.5-litres/100km.
The most expensive derivative is the 200 F Sport which has the same engine and performance figures as the 200 EX. The F Sport model adds different driver modes, a sporty steering wheel, adaptive suspension among other features.
All models are sold with a seven year or 105 000km maintenance plan and warranty.
