SPOTTED | Rolls-Royce's opulent 2020 Ghost and Cullinan SUV seen testing 'under wraps' in SA

Wheels24 reader Francois Malan came across two Rolls-Royce models dressed in test mule camouflaged-guise at a petrol station in the Northern Cape.

Malan said the cars were driven by German-speaking men and the vehicles bared German registration plates. "Last Monday (3 February) I spotted and photographed two slightly-disguised Rolls Royce test vehicles (suspect them to be the new Ghost and Cullinan) in Brandvlei, Northern Cape," told Wheels24's via phone.

Both vehicles have stickers placed on their front and rear that read: "government approved high speed safety test". Car manufacturers regularly use the province's R27 highway, a 226km stretch of road, to conduct high-speed testing on vehicles.

The first image below is likely the new Ghost, which will debut in the middle of 2020. The entry-level Rolls-Royce, based on the BMW 7 Series, competes with the Bentley Flying Spur.

We're not too sure of pricing for the new model, but the current model has a hefty price tag starting from around R5.8-million for the 'base' model.

It remains unclear why the Cullinan is under wraps, as the luxury automaker's first SUV went on sale in 2019. It is named after the Cullinan diamond, the largest of its kind found in the world.
