SEE: Ford F-Series, Toyota Hilux, Isuzu D-Max - the world’s best-selling bakkies

The global bakkie/pick-up market is a lucrative one; nearly every manufacturer builds one and those that don’t want a piece of the pie (ie Mercedes-Benz X-Class). 

But do you know which automaker sells the most bakkies globally? Which model is the best-selling bakkie around the world? Data by  focus2move shows the best-selling bakkies by brand.

Ford sold the most bakkies in 2018 with a global sales figure of 1 353 141 units! Toyota was second with 998 120 units, followed by Chevrolet (899 809).

RAM, Dodge’s bakkie arm, managed 647 582 units during the course of 2018, ahead of Isuzu on 335 647 units. Another US brand, GMC, sold 315 659 units last year, ahead of Nissan who managed 297 170 units.

Mitsubishi slots into eighth place with 200 043 units sold, ahead of Great Wall Motors (GWM) on 150 358.

Fiat completes the top ten with a sales figure of 147 895 units.

2018’s best-selling bakkies

Ford’s F-Series was the top-selling bakkie in 2018 on 1 081 245 sold, besting second-placed Chevrolet Silverado (651 131) by quite a margin.

The RAM pick-up slots into third with 623 444 sold, followed by South Africa’s favourite vehicle, the Toyota Hilux (548 313). The fifth-placed Isuzu D-Max found 301 629 new owners last year, followed by the GMC Sierra on 274 198.

The Toyota Tacoma sold 270 276in 2018, while the Ford Ranger slots into eighth place with 267 153 sold.

Chevrolet’s Colorado is ninth on 169 220, and the Toyota Tundra is tenth with 131 760 units sold.
