New Megane RS 300 Trophy launches in SA

Only seven units will be made available

Megane RS 300 Trophy is the only model available in the RS range

Renault South Africa has whittled down its Megane RS range to a solitary model with the launch of the RS 300 Trophy.

The catch is that only seven units will be made available to order, none of which have been sold yet. In a virtual launch Wednesday, Renault said it has no plans to bring the Trophy R to our shores.

Power is derived from the familiar 1.8-litre turbo engine and offered with the choice of a manual or dual-clutch EDC gearbox.

Power output is increased from 205kW to 221kW thanks to upgrades to the turbo. The manual version has 400Nm, while the twin-pedal version boasts 420Nm. Power is channeled to the front wheels.

The Trophy employs the Cup chassis that has stiffer shocks and anti-roll bars, including mechanical limited slip differential. Four-wheel steering is also available.

It rides on 19-inch triple tone alloy wheels wearing Bridgestone Potenza S001 tyres wit Brembo brakes providing  stopping power.

Renault says three derivatives fitted with the six-speed manual gearbox will be shipped over, with the remaining four units fitted with the EDC 'box.

Inside, it's all very sporty with the focus on the Recaro Bucket seats, finished in alcantara upholstery, which allow the driver’s position to be lowered by up to 20mm.
