Volkswagen's latest 'T-SUV', the T-Roc arrives in November 2020

The T-Roc was launched in South Africa via a digital reveal on June 17

Volkswagen SA says order books for the stylish compact SUV are open

Volkswagen South Africa's most important new car of the year is the T-Roc, a stylish crossover available from November.

It's now configurable on the VWSA website.

The T-Roc occupies the space between the T-Cross and the Tiguan in its SUV range and completes the 'T-SUV' family locally, which currently consists of the T-Cross, Tiguan, Tiguan Allspace, and the Touareg.

Two models will be introduced at launch, a front-wheel drive 1.4-litre model in Design specification with 110kW and 250Nm using an eight-speed automatic transmission and 2.0-litre TSi derivative in R-Line trim.

Standard features

Standard features on the Design model include: 17-inch "Mayfield" wheels, electronically-adjustable mirrors, folding and heated, with front passenger exterior mirror lowering function, front and rear park distance control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and a voice control function

The 2.0-litre TSI model in R-Line trim produces 140kW and 320Nm and utilises a four-wheel drive system. It's fitted with a seven-speed DSG transmission.

Standard features on the flagship model include: 19-inch "Suzuka" wheels, 'Vienna' leather package "Vienna", multi-color active info display, blind spot monitor "Plus" with rear traffic alert, lane-keep assist, LED headlamps and an electrically-operated function for opening and closing the boot.

A 2.0-litre TSI derivative in Design specification will arrive at the beginning of 2021.

Volkswagen South Africa has delayed the announcement of the T-Roc's pricing until August, citing the volatile exchange rates caused in recent months.

But indicative pricing for the 1.4-litre model is 'around R500 000 and the R600 000 for the 2.0-litre derivative'.

We had some fun with the Volkswagen T-Roc configurator and feel the 1.4-litre derivative is more than adequate. The only option box we'd tick is for the LED headlights, it features dynamic headlight range control.

Of the 25 exterior colours we chose the Atlantic Blue Metallic.
