Hot hatchbacks have always been a favourite among South Africans. For as long as we can remember, they've been the go-to cars of choice; the derivatives we aim to acquire.
And while the prices of these cars have escalated in recent years, so too did the choice for an automatic gearbox over a manual version.
Ask any petrol head, and you'll quickly understand why a manual transmission will always have a soft spot in a true driver's heart. Still, we can't discount the many advantages of an auto' box.
But did you know that several automakers still have hot hatches that are driven by manual gearboxes? In 2020, Hyundai launched its new i30N with a manual 'box, and Renault did the same with its Megane RS 300 Trophy. Other options available on our market include the Honda Civic Type R and Megane RS 280 Cup.

Note: Our list includes the real hard-hitters in the market. If you want something more attainable that'll put just as big a smile on your face, we recommend looking at the Opel Corsa GSi, Suzuki Swift Sport, and Abarth 500 595 Competizione 1.4T.
