Best-selling luxury SUVs in SA: Range Rover, Audi prove popular in July

The market for luxury SUVs continued to grow in July with the local reveal of the Lamborghini Urus.

At the top of the large luxury SUV pile sits the Range Rover/RR Sport with a total sales figure of 109 units. The other regular contender for top honours, the Toyota Land Cruiser 200, only managed 85 units to secure second place.

Big hitters

The Land Cruiser 200’s smaller brother sold the third most units on 84 someway clear of former chart-topper, the Land Rover Discovery, with 55 units.

Porsche’s Cayenne continued to impress in fifth place and secured the signatures of 46 eager buyers, 3 units ahead of the Range Rover Velar (43 units, sixth place).

Former South African Car of the Year champion, the Volvo XC90, sold 38 units and moves into seventh, while the Jaguar F-Pace could only muster 25 units for an eighth place finish.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee and Audi Q7 completes the top ten, with 17 and 15 units, respectively.

Q5 leads charge

While the Q7 rounds out the top ten for larger SUVs, its sibling, the Q5, heads the charts for July 2018. The Q5 sold 88 units to customers, while Volvo’s recently-launched XC60 went second with 75 units. The Jaguar E-Pace sold 65 units.

The Land Rover Discovery Sport secured a sales figure of 44 units for fourth place, ahead of the Lexus NX’s 25 units. The Range Rover Evoque dropped to sixth with 24 units sold.

The Lexus RX sold 10 units, while the Alfa Romeo Stelvio closes the top eight for this month on four units.
