UPDATE: Many readers have requested fuel prices for neighbouring African countries. We're collating the data and will publish the results in an upcoming article.

The recent fuel hikes have been taxing on South African motorists. First the 45c cents per litre increase on May 2, and the steep 95c per litre increase which is looming at the end of this month.

The price of fuel will see locals paying almost R16/per litre by June 2018.

While SA reels from steep fuel price increase, globalpetrol.com lists highest fuel prices in the world. Its list for May 2018 uses current dollar price for fuel per country.

It's interesting to see the price of fuel in other countries. In Iceland the price is listed as $2.13 per litre which equates to R26.86 for a litre of petrol, while motorists in China pay $2.09 per litre for their fuel. It's important to note economic factors play huge role in the price of fuel and affordability; Iceland has a robust economy and higher average salaries compared to South Africa.
