Zimbabwe  leads the world as the most expensive fuel not only on the African continent but globally too. Zimbabweans are forking $3.31 for petrol compared to drivers in China, who at second place on our list, pay $2.06.

The embattled African country is facing its worst petrol shortage in a decade.

The average price of fuel around the world is $1.09 per litre. Venezuelan motorists are still enjoying the cheapest fuel in the world at $0.01 a litre of petrol.
