Valtteri Bottas set the fastest time in the second practice session for this weekend's Russian Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver went quickest on a 1:33.519, almost 0.3 seconds clear of team mate Lewis Hamilton, and a second clear of third-placed Daniel Ricciardo of Renault.
Bottas also went fastest in the first practice session earlier today and is building forth on the momentum he's building up. The Mercedes drivers are in a class of their own this weekend - as has been the case throughout 2020 - and is likely to go unchallenged as the weekend progresses.
Where is Max?
Max Verstappen, the only driver to give Mercedes a run for their money, only managed to go seventh fastest with a 1:35.048. The Red Bull driver has had a rather eventful afternoon. First, he almost stuck his car into the barriers, only to spin around barely a lap later. His team mate, Alex Albon, finished the session in 12th place.
For Ferrari, it was another session to forget. Charles Leclerc was again the fastest driver for the team and managed to end the session on eighth place. His team mate, Aston Martin-bound Sebastian Vettel, mustered an attempt to finish in the tenth place.
The two McLaren cars of Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively. The British team has had a good couple of races on their last outings but will look to add to their good run of form when qualifying and the race come around. Both drivers were slightly faster than Racing Point's Sergio Perez, who, with a car that has not received the team's latest updates, managed to finish the session in sixth place.
Perez will depart the team he's been with since 2014 at the end of the current season, with no deal for 2021 formally announced.
