New year, new hope - Claire Williams cautiously 'optimistic' about 2020

Williams' deputy team boss, Claire Williams, says she is not expecting any "miracles" in 2020, but is optimistic about an improved showing.

Last year, on the back of a disappointing 2018 season, Williams recorded its worst-ever season in Formula 1.

The team failed to make the start of pre-season testing, missing two and a half days.

And once the car was on the track, it was evident to everyone that Williams had missed the mark.

The team parted ways with tech boss Paddy Lowe and spent much of 2019 trying new things that didn’t work.

Williams scored one point last season.

A better 2020

This year, racing the FW43, Williams is hoping for better, but the team has already revealed that the new car is an evolution of last year’s without any major new concepts.

This has left fans and pundits alike wondering what 2020 holds in store for the former World Champions.

Deputy boss Williams acknowledges there are no miracles awaiting her team but that doesn't mean 2020 won't be a year of recovery.

She told GrandPx.news: "We are not just hoping for a miracle and that we will suddenly find something extraordinary. That no longer happens in F1. But for me, the glass is always half full. I believe in the team.

"We just need some time for all the changes that we want to introduce."
