South African MotoGP rider Brad Binder is raring to go at this weekend's San Marino MotoGP race. The rookie said he was happy to be back on the bike after the sport's two week break after three consecutive race weekends.

The KTM rider is currently fourth in the championship and heads into the race at Misano just 21 points adrift of leader Fabio Quartararo.

Binder's sensational win at the Czech Republic GP in August sent local fans into delirium as he became the first South African to win a MotoGP race.

"It takes a toll on you, it's super tough and I had a good two weeks (and) got some really good training in and looking forward to getting started again," Binder said in an interview with Red Bull South Africa.

Binder and co are in for a hectic nine-race period across 11 weeks. The season has thrown up several surprises already, Binder is one of three first-time winners.

"This year has been so up and down for everybody, that I think even if it's not a fantastic weekend you can just try and score some solid points it can go a long way," Binder said when asked about his aim for the next two races in Italy.

Binder says the advantage of the back-to-back races is that there is a second opportunity to improve on the result.

"Obviously it would be great if I can get everything under control straight away but it seems in GP so far it's been quite tough, but I'm looking forward to the challenge and I'm pretty sure I can do a good job here," he said.

The action gets underway on Friday with practice, and the race at 14:00 on Sunday, 13 September.
