Gross! Here's the body you need to survive a car crash

Australia - Road safety is a major concern for many governments around the world. Because of this, the Australian Transport Accident Commission (TAC) launched its latest road safety awareness project - Graham.

Graham, says the TAC, was designed with the intent to highlight “how susceptible the human body is to the forces involved in transport accidents.”

Melbourne-based sculptor Patricia Piccinini gave Graham his 'identity'.

He has no neck!

Graham’s purpose is to highlight what a human being might have looked like had we evolved to withstand the high pressures and forces involved in car crashes.

According to TAC, the human body can only handle impacts at speeds that people can reach on their own.

Not impacts caused by external factors, like cars, that increases that natural speed.

TAC chief executive officer Joe Calafiore said: "People can survive running at full pace into a wall, but when you’re talking about collisions involving vehicles, the speeds are faster, the forces are greater and the chances of survival are much slimmer.”

Graham’s skull is oversized, he doesn't have a neck and his chest is filled with air to resemble airbags.
