Employing a power plug, which works in conjunction with your ECU system, eliminates the cutting of wires or modifying of any engine internals. The unit itself is re-programmable and works 100% in conjunction with the Engine Management System (EMS) of your vehicle.
Should you no longer want the unit or want to sell your car, you can simply remove it again and all is back to standard.
Although SAC does not provide power figures for the upgrade, performance figures, at Reef altitudes, sees the 0-100km sprint drop to 7.17 seconds, down from 7.83 seconds.
The 200km/h sprint is completed in 28.08 seconds, a full 10 seconds quicker than the standard car and top speed increases to 249.35 km/h true, up from 230.27km/h. Fuel economy is claimed to be better too.
These performance figures were obtained using a VW Golf GTI, sporting the 147kW incarnation of the 2.0 TFSI engine in standard trim. Seat FR and Audi A3, A4 and TT models, which share the same base powerplant, are also eligible candidates for the conversion. Suggested retail for the 2.0 TFSI conversion is R6 900.
With the new A4, due soon in South African, ushering in the latest version of the TFSI direct injection engine, which should produce 157kW and 350Nm, it remains to be seen if the SAC power plug can offset the latest factory 2.0 TFSI engine in terms in performance.
