Coming to SA: Porsche's new hybrid Panamera

Johannesburg - The 2016 Paris Motor Show will see Porsche unveil its latest addition to its Panamera line-up; the new Panamera 4 E-Hybrid.

The new hybrid is fitted with all-wheel drive and Porsche claims a pure battery-powered range of 50km.

The plug-in hybrid generates 340kW/700Nm and with a claimed fuel consumption of 2.5-litres/100km and emissions of 56g/km.

Purely electric range of 50km

The new Porsche plug-in hybrid always starts in purely electric mode and continues as a zero-emission vehicle up to a range of 50km at a maximum speed of 140km/h. The all-wheel Porsche achieves a top speed of 278km/h.

The four-door hybrid sportscar breaks the 100km/h sprint in just 4.6 seconds.

Hybrid strategy based on the 918 Spyder

As with the 918 Spyder, the power of the Panamera electric motor - 100kW/400Nm - is made available as soon as the driver touches the accelerator pedal, says Porsche. Following the same set-up of the super sportscar, the electric motor is available to deliver additional power at all times.

Together with the performance characteristics of the new 2.9-litre V6 biturbo engine(243kW/450Nm), Porsche says the power unit 'generates impressive boost'.

The high-voltage battery takes just 5.8 hours to fully charge via a 230-V, 10-A connection. If the driver chooses to use the optional 7.2kW on-board charger and a 230-V, 32-A connection instead of the standard 3.6kW charger on the Panamera, the battery fully charges in just 3.6 hours.
