Subaru reveals new Impreza hatchback at #IAA2017

Frankfurt, Germany - New from the ground up, Subaru’s all-new Impreza hatch is making its European debut at the Frankfurt International Motor Show.

Impreza is a compact hatchback and follows Subaru’s formula of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive paired to a Boxer engine. This is the fifth generation of the Impreza model, a hatchback with go-anywhere capability and permanent all-wheel drive.

Subaru says the Impreza’s chassis has been stiffened, whilst ensuring improved handling and acceleration. The car, says the automaker, retains Subaru’s renowned off-road capability.

Lower and wider

The new Impreza is 10mm lower, 35mm wider and has a 25mm longer wheelbase than the fourth-generation. The cabin is wider by 29mm at the front and 34mm at the rear and has 26mm more rear seat leg room.

The 1.6-litre kicks out 85kW/150Nm. Subaru says that 70% of the engine’s components have been redesigned, while reducing weight by 14kg.

The 2.0-litre delivers 115kW/196Nm and has a weight-saving of 12kg over the old unit. 80% of the engine has been redesigned.
