This video shows us why #GuguZulu was one of the best

Cape Town - On Monday July 18, Wheels24 reported that one of South Africa's veteran motorsport personalities, Gugu Zulu, died while attempting to summit Mount Kilimanjaro.

The 38-year-old was climbing the tallest mountain in Africa with his wife Letshego and project leader Richard Mabaso. The team was led by experienced mountaineer, Sibusiso Vilane.

In 2015, Wheels24 published a video showcasing Zulu's incredible driving skill.

This is how we remember the champion.

Quick reactions

South African rally driver Gugu Zulu posted a video of a breath-taking incident at the 2015 Volkswagen PE rally.

Zulu and co-driver Hilton Auffray, competing in a S2000 Volkswagen Polo, braved a particularly tough route through the Eastern Cape.

The pair took on a simple jump before things went wrong.

The clip shows the experienced driver control the rally car and narrowly avoid what could've been a race-ending crash.

Zulu posted the following on Facebook: "I always tell people that rallying is #‎ControlledChaos and sometimes the beast buckles like a ranging bull out of control at over 100 PLENTY Km/hr! It's either you hold on and OWN the beast or curl up into a fetal position. Thankfully we got away lightly - My rally car could have been scrap metal ."

The next round of the 2016 championship is the Cullinan Rally, which takes place from August 14 and 15, round six of the eight-round series.
