Another F1 driver switches to Formula E

London - After losing his seat at Haas, Esteban Gutierrez will continue his motor racing career in the Formula E single seater series.

'Selected events'

The Mexican driver and the electric-powered series has announced that the 25-year-old will race in "select events" this season, including in his native Mexico in April.

Formula E said Gutierrez is in talks with "a number of teams" with the aim of then securing a full-time entry for 2018.

Formula E supremo Alejandro Agag said: "I think this could be the start of a very long and successful career in Formula E."

Ups and downs

Gutierrez returned to Formula 1 in 2016 following the 2015 season in which he failed to secure a racing seat. However, in 2015 the Mexican was official reserve and test driver for the Ferrari team.

With Haas entering the sport as a new team in 2016 and Ferrari sharing much of its technical know-how with the newbies - including engines - Gutierrez was a logical choice to join the new team. But the driver failed to make an impression and was thoroughly beaten by Haas team mate Romain Grosjean.
